Inspiring Stand Outs for Challenge #11

Hello Inspired by fans!  It's Karen here to bring you our Inspiring Stand Outs for challenge #11!  We had such a fabulous collection of pink, girly, cupcake goodness in our gallery this week - thanks to all who joined us by playing along.

Our chosen artists for this week can grab the badge here, and post it on their blogs!  A huge thank you to Miriam Prantner for being our Inspiring Guest Designer - be sure to visit her blog to see how inspiring all her work is!

Miriam chose #15 Nancy Penir as her stand out:
I love how Nancy used the tulle to create a wonderful texture to her background.  I also love how her dies frame her panel, and the use of the big number candle dies.  It adds a bit of whimsy to a very elegant card.

Karen chose #6 Mac Mable as her stand out:

I love the simplicity of this card, and Mac Mable managed to incorporate both the cupcake and tiara perfectly - along with a little bling.  The subtly stencilled background is the perfect foil for the cupcake that she created with embossing paste!  Beautiful!!

Our next challenge goes live at 5am Pacific - hope you can join us!

Inspired By All The Little Things - featuring Miriam Prantner

Hello and welcome to Inspired By All The Little Things! This is a weekly inspiration challenge blog and each week we feature a wonderful designer who inspires us as an artist!

Hello everyone!  It's Karen with you this week - I picked this sweet cupcake photo as this week's inspiration, as much for the caption that came with it, as for the photo.  It simply said "Cupcake Tutus".  And seriously, what little girl wouldn't want a cupcake tutu for her birthday?  I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

This week I have invited... Miriam Prantner as my guest designer!
I have followed Miriam's work for years, seeing her creations all over the blogosphere - and through her journey in the Papercrafts Gallery Idol competition.  She is a talented stamp set and die designer - with a style that I'm going to call "modern & graphic".  So thrilled to have you join us this week, Miriam!  She has also offered all of this week's challenge participants 50% off on her Craftsy class called "Fresh Eyes on your Cardmaking Supplies" - just click on this link: http://www.craftsy.com/ext/MiriamPrantner_10298_h

I asked Miriam to share a bit about herself...

1. What is the name of your blog? When and why did you start it?
The name of my blog is Sooner Rather than Later, and the truth is that I named it in a hurry, in November of 2011.  I hadn't planned on starting a blog at the time, I was just getting into stamping and card making and was thinking that I would wait a bit before I started a blog, but then went ahead and did it so I could start entering some challenges.  I was also starting out as a Close To My Heart consultant around that time, and it was a way to get more plugged in with that community too.

2. What is your style of card making?
I think I tend towards clean and simple, but honestly it's very experimental.  I started out as a scrapbooker, and what I love about cards is that the smaller surface (and the fact that you don't need to worry about being photo safe) allows you to try lots of new things and use lots of different supplies.  I really enjoy mixed media and getting messy, but I tend to do so in a more controlled manner.

3. Who inspires you as a designer?
So many people!  I love visiting blogs where I know I'll see something different, so some of my favorites are Jocelyn Olson, Jennifer Rzasa, Kelly Griglione, and Aga Malysek, and on the scrapbooking side Missy Whidden, and Sandy Ang.

4. What sort of things inspire you as a card maker? Photos? Sketches? Other designers?
I am most often inspired by a product.  I like to take my cues from a stencil, stamp, paper, embellishment or die, and then build my card around it.  Sketches are often the hardest for me because I kind of work the other way around and like to let my products do the deciding for me.

5. Share something about yourself that we may not know?
Despite my CAS style, I'm a huge mess!  I tend to work in piles, on the folding table that I have to work on/store supplies in the sunroom, all over the floor in the sunroom, in the basement where I take things to work on when I'm catching up on DVR shows.  The craft stuff tends to only be cleaned up once a month (when the cleaning ladies are coming) and then it's mostly an organized set of piles that gets moved back to the floor as soon as I start working again.  I'm waiting for my daughters to pick up on this bit of hypocrisy, but they haven't quite called me on it yet....

Here is Miriam's card using this week's inspiration!

The challenge designers have also created a card for this week's inspiration! These ladies just inspire me SO much!!! I hope you will play along with us this week! We would love to have you join us!

All of the designs were amazing this week and I am so glad you played along!  Bonnie's  mix of elements - stripes of pattern paper, twine button bow, and lacy border just blew me away!

So clever how Tenia took the inspiration photo and spun it in a different direction.  She picked up on the colors and spun it into a feast for the eyes!   I'm always looking for her trademark bit of washi - it's easy to find this time!   The perfect finishing touch!

Congratulations ladies and thank you to everyone who played along with us this week! We will be back in one hour with a brand new challenge!

The next challenge goes live at 5:00 am PST.

Inspired by All the Little Things - Featuring Jinny Newlin

Hello and welcome to Inspired By All The Little Things! This is a weekly inspiration challenge blog and each week we feature a wonderful designer who inspires us as an artist!

This week I asked the sweet Jinny Newlin to be our guest. The first project I remember seeing by Jinny was in CARDS Magazine! I've been a fan of Jinny ever since! Her style is fresh and homespun.  She's an amazing designer and better than that, one of the sweetest people you'd ever want to meet!

I asked Jinny to share a little bit about herself...

1. What is the name of your blog? When and why did you start it?

The name of my blog is Soaring. I started it, in September of 2009, at the encouragement of a fellow, papercraft friend, to showcase what I’d been creating and share some of my family’s day-to-day with extended family and friends.

2. What is your style of card making?

I don’t like to put labels on my card making style. It is always morphing and changing to fit my current likes, but I can tell you that I currently love splatter painting, watercoloring, cute images, and playful puns; and I’ve always enjoyed playing with textures, layers, and bold colors and can’t resist a fabulous print and/or pretty trimming.

3. Who inspires you as a designer?

I couldn’t possibly pick one or even two people that inspire me the most. I’m inspired by the papercraft community at large. The small handful of designers’ styles that I am drawn to today may change tomorrow, but I always adore designers who aren’t afraid to just be themselves and whose designs are clean and well-pieced together.

4. What sort of things inspire you as a card maker? Photos? Sketches? Other designers?

Inspiration is everywhere! I’m inspired by a well-dressed room, a book/magazine cover, and even the contents of my closet. I’m also completely inspired by the hand of my Creator, whether it be in the hues of a Kansas sunset, the smell of a wheat field ripe for harvest, the warm touch of my children’s kisses, or the sweet sounds of a whistling breeze racing through the Colorado mountains. Online challenge blogs and websites, too, tend to keep my style from getting too stuffy and stretch me out of my comfort zones.

5. Share something about yourself that we may not know?

I’m truly an open book and wear my feelings on my sleeves. So, if you’ve been a follower of mine for any length of time, there’s probably not much you don’t know about me. However, in the spirit of playfulness, not many people know that I can totally rock a hula hoop.

Here's Jinny's beautiful card inspired by the photo this week!

And some inspiration from our brand new design team...

and finally :) a project by me!

We hope you will play along with us!

Nancy's Choice: Nancy Penir

This was so tough! The cards are gorgeous! I love Nancy Penir's card! This is stunning and beautiful and any other adjective I can think of! The flowers are so vibrant and have so much detail, the two toned sentiment looks fabulous too! I think you did a great job capturing the photo, Nancy!

Lesley's Choice: Tae Eun

Tae Eun's card was a real stand out for me this week. The gold embossing, mixed with the vibrant colours made this card so elegant and unique. I love the spray of colour and the scripty font of the sentiment.

Inspired by All the Little Things -featuring Nancy Leppek

Hello and welcome to Inspired By All The Little Things! This is a weekly inspiration challenge blog and each week we feature a wonderful designer who inspires us as an artist!

This week I have invited the lovely Nancy Leppek to be our Guest! Nancy is a dear friend of mine and I love her passion for art! She always creates the most beautiful and creative projects.

I asked Nancy to share a bit about herself...

1. What is the name of your blog? When and why did you start it?

I started my blog Scrapper@heart back in June of 2008.  I picked that name because scrapbooking was my first love.  In fact, I loved it so much I became a consultant for Creative Memories years ago and did that for quite a few years.  I still adore their products to date.  Then a friend of mine introduced me to card making and scrapbooking got pushed to the back burner.  I started my blog so that I could participate in challenges, plus I have always had a passion for writing and I thought it would be a good way to keep track of my personal journey through life and card making.

2. What is your style of card making?

My style of card making is kinda all over the place. If I had to narrow it down to what I do the most, that would be…. clean and layered. Although, as you will see by my card, I just recently started using watercolors and I really love it!

3. Who inspires you as a designer?

This is a very tough question and the common and most HONEST answer is EVERYONE out there in blogland inspires me and makes me strive to be a better card maker. There are so many of you to thank, and hopefully by now you know who you are!!  However, I think this wold be a great time to mention the two people that inspired me at the VERY beginning of this journey that I still stalk, I mean follow today!  That would be Laurie Schmidlin of Just Give Me Stamps  and Julee Tilman of Poetic Artistry, and the owner of Verve.  I would also like to mention that Lesley (our fabulous hostess) took a big chance on me when she trusted me to take over (Seize the Birthday), one of her many established challenge blogs she founded, and I will forever be grateful!  Thanks so much Lesley!

4. What sort of things inspire you as a card maker? Photos? Sketches? Other designers?

All of the above!!!  I sure hope I am not the only one that has a group of blogs and or challenge blogs that I follow on a daily or weekly basis.   I am so addicted to these sites, that when I am away for a few days and I return, I have to make sure I visit each and everyone to see what I missed.  Please tell me you get me?  I love to start my card making with sketches and or a color palette, it sure speeds up the process.  I am a very slow designer…. so my hubby has mentioned. ;)

5. Share something about yourself that we may not know?

I am 6 feet tall, and despite having height that usually works as an advantage,  I am very uncoordinated when it comes to sports. I think there is just to much of me to control. LOL!

Here is Nancy's gorgeous card using this week's inspiration!

The challenge designers have also created a card for this week's inspiration! These ladies just inspire me SO much!!! I hope you will play along with us this week! We would love to have you join us!

Stephanie's Stand Out for the week!

I love the pop of colour on Karren's succulents against the grey and black background and the added Wink of Stella on the succulents almost looks like water... cool effect.

Tracey's Stand Out for the week!

I love how Betty created a beautiful mixed bouquet that mimics both the flowers and the succulents from the inspiration piece. Her two toned and inking and having some of the elements popped up adds such dimension!

Congratulations ladies and thank you to everyone who played along with us this week! We will be back in one hour with a brand new challenge!
